The flood control reservoir will be built so that floodwaters from a drainage area of about 32 square miles can be held until downstream channels can accommodate the flows.

The total flood storage capacity will be approximately 10,670 acre-feet, of which 6,840 acre-feet will be gated to provide detention times in excess of 30 days if needed and the remainder will be ungated.

In addition to providing significant flood control benefits, the project will provide high quality habitat for flora and fauna.

Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2007.
