The off channel impoundment and the diversion provide 100 year flood protection for Warren and a reduction in flood flows for all reaches downstream of the off channel floodwater storage structure.

With the occurrence of a 100 year flood the off channel impoundment would store an estimated 6,700 acre-feet of water from a drainage area of about 57 square miles, thus reducing the flow at Warren by approximately 1,400 cubic feet per second.

Construction was completed in the summer of 2006.
